Maintaining-A-Calm-Inner-State-When-the-World-Around-You-Is-Not

You can listen to the full podcast episode here:

Do you have trouble turning your mind off? When you wake up in the morning, does your brain instantly begin racing as it considers all that needs to get done that day? If the answer is yes, then you are beginning your day like so many others.  It’s in a state of disturbance — not calm — as the anxious thinking begins the second your alarm goes off. It’s no way to live, and yet it’s the norm for society.

We are living in a time where stress and burnout are more common than not. We’re busy and that is costing us connection with ourselves and those we are here to love and serve. Even in the more quiet moments, it’s challenging to be still and enjoy the peace and ease.

So, if you’re feeling like you just can’t slow down, I have something for you. Your solution lies in the ability to cultivate and maintain an inner calmness. It’s a superpower, a bona fide magic pill that can absolutely transform your world. There’s even the science to back up its real time benefits. The rising growth-minded leaders who are making change and expanding their impact on a day to day basis have this figured out, and you can too.

In this episode I share:

  • The 3 things that create inner calmness every morning in less than five minutes
  • The scientific benefits of having moments of stillness and documenting gratitude daily
  • Life-changing results that occur when we don’t allow our thoughts to disturb us
  • What to do when you begin to fall out of your inner calm state

A Shortcut To Neutralize Worry and Face Down Fear

You can listen to the full podcast episode here:

Years ago, my family and I were on summer vacation at the lake. It was a picturesque summer day. The sky was blue, the lake was calm, and the kids were happy. I took my three children out to go paddle boarding and we glided all the way across the lake with ease. However, when it was time to come back, our circumstances changed. The current was fighting against us and a storm was quickly approaching.

While I remained calm on the outside, I began to panic and felt a rush of fear wash over me. There were three young children who were all crying and extremely scared, and only one of me. How was I going to get everyone out of this safely? Well, the important thing is that I did. What I learned that day is equally as important.

This specific situation is my reminder that I have overcome something that felt absolutely impossible at the time. I can still remember the terror that I experienced that day, and yet I got through it. If I could work my way through that, I can certainly tackle other challenges as well. And so can you.

When painful or challenging things happen to us, it often heightens our anxiety. We begin to think of what-if and worst-case scenarios. That kind of worrying does one thing. It drains you to your core. It is a surefire way to cause you to miss out on life’s wonder and celebrations that you were meant to experience.

Now, think of a time when you were scared or thought it’s over. A time when you wanted to wave your white flag and call it quits. If you’re reading this today, that means you got through it. Use those past courageous moments to propel you forward. Use them to find your strength and endurance to serve others and build the life you desire.

In this episode I share:

  • A shortcut to taking control of your own thought process and eliminate worry
  • Powerful tools that will help you gain trust and faith in your future self
  • How to use your unique courageous story to overcome mental and physical tests
  • Using the cookie jar concept to remind yourself of what you’re capable of

How To Bounce Back From A Setback

how-to-bounce-back-from-a-setback

You can listen to the full podcast episode here:

We have all faced setbacks. It’s part of life. Things seem to be going well and then BAM, something happens that completely throws us off course. We are left wondering how we will ever bounce back. The setback becomes part of us and we are left judging and doubting ourselves. Here’s the thing we need to understand. The setback itself is not the real problem that we face. It’s the meaning that we give to the setback.

When circumstances don’t go as planned, we either take it personally or deny that it’s happening at all. We hold on to the past pain and trauma. Neither of these reactions result in moving forward. So, what is the answer to getting past life’s tough moments and getting on with life? Acknowledge the setback, resist the urge to blame, take responsibility for your part, live from the present moment, accept what is, and refocus on what makes us feel alive. If you are truly committed to playing full out, failures and challenges will happen. That is one of life’s certainties. But you can become unstoppable when you master the art of bouncing back.

In this episode I share:

  • Five concrete steps to bounce back after you experience a setback
  • A surefire way to make peace no matter how undesirable the situation
  • A mindset shift to get out of the past and into the present
  • How to overcome the urge to blame others and take responsibility for our actions
  • The crucial need to reframe acceptance and step out of denial

Concrete Strategies For Reducing Judgment To Improve Your Life

You can listen to the full podcast episode here:

Think back to the last time you cast judgment on another. Maybe it was against your spouse, friend, coworker, boss, or even a stranger on the street. Did you then go to someone else and justify that judgment? How did you feel after doing so? At peace? Likely not.

Despite our assumptions, peace of mind is never the byproduct of judgment. I know because I’ve learned that lesson the hard way in my corporate career. I realized that my judgment against my company’s decisions was keeping me from getting what I wanted. It wasn’t my company’s fault at all, but my own. Oh boy, was that freeing. Once I wiped out my judgment, I immediately became happier in my role and made the advancements that I had been working towards.

When we judge others, we are killing our connection to them. It leads to feelings of resentment, confusion, and guilt. It is an act that can destroy a relationship in the blink of an eye, and half of the time we don’t even know that we’re doing it. The truth is, being nonjudgmental is tough. It is something that requires self-awareness and practice. Understanding what judgment is REALLY about will help us to transform it and release it. Only then can we really thrive in our relationships and step into the role of the bold fulfilled leaders we’re meant to be.

My call to you is not to completely eliminate judgment altogether, but to simply notice when it’s happening and reduce the amount of time we sit in it. Do that, and I guarantee your performance will increase and your impact will amplify.

In this episode I share:

  • How to know when you’re in a judgment zone
  • The REAL reason that we judge others
  • Thoughtful ways to release your judgments before it causes harm
  • The exact steps to take if you are being judgmental
  • Why we must be aware of our intentions
  • The crucial difference between judgment and discernment

Mastering The Art Of Connection

You can listen to the full podcast episode here:

The single most important skill that you will ever need is not one that is explicitly taught to you, yet it’s ranked #1 in determining how long you will live along with being responsible for your happiness in your personal and work life. The ability I am referring to is connection. To be clear, I’m not talking about a connection that you make on LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter from behind a computer screen or iPhone. I define connection as a trusting, authentic, meaningful interaction that gives energy to another person.

So, why does it matter so much? Simply think about the most defining moments and important relationships in your life. These things all happened because of a deeper connection with another person. Connection makes people feel seen, heard, and felt. That’s something all of us want. In order to experience these relationships, we need to give as much as we take. Today I’m taking you on a journey where you will learn how to take your connection factor to the next level and make a bigger impact in return.

In this episode I share:

  • The data and research-proven benefits of connection
  • My 4 observations of connection based on personal experience and science
  • Ideas to deepen your connection with ease
  • How to eliminate the barriers to connection

The 4-Step Problem Solving Framework

the-four-part-problem-solving-framework

You can listen to the full podcast episode here:

There is one massive area in which I see even the most successful leaders fall short. It is a skill that we will always need no matter what line of work we’re in. The skill I am referring to is problem solving. How we approach solving problems is key in determining our reality both at work and home. Mastering problem solving is so important, yet most of us are doing it all wrong. When setting out to face a challenge, the majority of people are addressing a problem that isn’t actually the problem at all.

It is time to end the traditional ways we have been taught to solve a problem. The process begins with having the ability to accurately identify the problem and get to the root of the matter – the nitty gritty. It requires you to challenge your assumptions, rethink stories you tell yourself, and come to a clear resolution. Learning how to do this will allow you to put an end to any draining situations you previously thought were a struggle or impossible to solve.

In this episode I share:

  • My four-part problem solving framework that will help you take on any challenge you are facing
  • An easy way you can revisit roadblocks from a different perspective
  • A life-changing secret that will make a significant impact in how you view your external circumstances
  • The power of identifying the stories you tell yourself

Change Your Relationship With Time And Break Free Of The Pressured Pace

You can listen to the full podcast episode here:

Do you know what’s overrated? Busyness. If it was a good thing then it wouldn’t lead to burnout, anxiety, and overwhelm. Despite what society may tell us, busyness does not make us greater or more important than the next person. (There are a lot of important people who are not busy to show us this isn’t true.) Nevertheless, we unwittingly design our days with a rush to get more done as opposed to getting done what matters. And we continue to seek to do more even when we are already overextended.

Our first mistake is that we tend to blame our busyness on poor time management or not having enough hours in the day, when in reality that’s not the problem at all. The problem has to do with our identity not being a match to the role we are in. So how do we expand our identity and stop blaming our lack of time? This episode will give you practical, actionable tools  to eliminate the feeling of a constant pressured pace immediately and increase your productivity and  peace of mind.

In this episode I share:

  • The misinformation our culture promotes about busyness
  • 4 essential steps to reclaim your time and be more present, productive and peaceful
  • How to make the shift from a time-scarcity relationship to a time-abundant relationship and have more than enough time for anything you want
  • My go-to mantra when I feel rushed that immediately releases the pressure

You can listen to the full podcast episode here:

We all want to be great at what we do. We want to lead successful and fulfilling lives without the hustle and pressure that comes with it. So what’s the secret? For us to experience the outcomes and results we desire, it takes more than mindset. It takes consistent action. Not massive action as some of the experts will tell you, but small actions done daily. It’s all about our habits. Consistently practicing life-changing habits is the secret sauce used by the most accomplished and balanced leaders.

Today I am sharing the six habits that I recommend you have in play if you want to build work worth creating and a life guided by your own design — day in and day out. These habits will inspire confidence and action in everything you do. They are backed by science and proven to help you bypass overwhelm and other limitations in the areas of work that have held you back in the past. As you listen, remember to start small. When you invest in small changes the compound effect is exponential growth.  Try it. You will be amazed at the results that follow. You’ve got this!
